Michaelhouse 2010 raised R180 000 for conservation...let’s do it again and be part of something great! We look forward to have you with us yet again.

The Balgowan Conservancy was established in 1978 by landowners in the area who were concerned about the reduction in the number of game and general degradation of the environment. With much help from the then Natal Parks Board, the conservancy was duly started and became the first of many conservancies with the same objectives which have spread across KwaZulu-Natal. The Conservancy’s mission is to support sustainable resource utilization, and to conserve wildlife and their habitats in the Balgowan Conservancy for the benefit of present and future generations by stimulating interest and active participation among all residents of the community through communication and education.
The Conservancy has several ongoing projects including the restoration of wetlands within the conservancy, the recently launched Balgowan Indigenous Forest Walk and the development of an Information Kiosk based at Michaelhouse for birding and walking enthusiasts visiting the Midlands. This Kiosk was funded by the funds raised from last year’s race - why not go and have a look! For more information on the Balgowan Conservancy visit www.balgowanconservancy.co.za
